Dolly Parton has opened up about the significance behind her “little tattoos”, sharing she has “more than one” piece of pastel body ink.

The ā€œJoleneā€ singer has never revealed her tattoos in photographs but told W magazine that she has gotten the ink to cover up scarring.

ā€œI have a few little tattoos here and there,ā€ she explained. ā€œMost of my tattoos came because Iā€™m very fair, and I have a tendency to scar when I get any kind of cut.ā€

She added that sheā€™s also gotten tattoos to ā€œtake the sting outā€ of her previous surgeries and if the ā€œscars didnā€™t heal properlyā€. The country music icon shared that they arenā€™t ā€œheavy, dark tattoosā€ but instead are ā€œall pastelā€.

Parton added that a couple of her tattoos include butterflies because of her lifelong love of the insect.

The ā€œ9 to 5ā€ singer recalled how she used to ā€œget in trouble with my momā€ because her family would often find her ā€œchasing a butterfly from one bush to anotherā€ when she was young.

ā€œButterflies donā€™t sting, they donā€™t bite and they are so beautiful,ā€ Parton said. ā€œAnd I just kind of related to them with my own personality. I claimed them as my little symbol.ā€

Dolly Parton has opened up about her ink before. In an interview with People in 2020, she described her tattoos as ā€œtastefulā€ before adding she isnā€™t a ā€œtattoo girlā€.

“My tattoos are pretty, theyā€™re artful and they usually started out to cover some scar, not to make a big statement,” she said. “Ribbons and bows and butterflies are the things that I have.ā€

She described how she was ā€œvery sick for a whileā€ and had to ā€œwear a feeding tubeā€ which left her with a ā€œlittle indention in my sideā€. Parton said she didnā€™t like the mark and decided to ā€œmake positives out of negativesā€.

ā€œI had a little beehive tattooed over it ā€” a little yellow-and-brown beehive with a tiny little bee on top of the hive,ā€ she explained. ā€œThe mouth of it is that little sinkhole.”

But Parton said there is one thing she hasnā€™t gotten tattooed ā€“ a portrait of her husband, Carl Dean. She said her husband is instead ā€œtattooed on my heartā€.
