Radio 1 host Adele Roberts diagnosed with cancer: ‘I’m going to give it everything I’ve got’

BBC Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts is undergoing surgery after being diagnosed with bowel cancer.
In an heartfelt Instagram post, the radio and TV personality explained that she had been experiencing irregularities with her digestion for years.
At first she was “embarrassed”, but suspected it was just a food sensitivity.
However she was worried her symptoms could be something more serious and so, following encouragement from her father, Roberts sought medical attention via the NHS. She was subsequently diagnosed with bowel cancer.
The star, who originally found fame living in the Big Brother house with Jade Goody and Alison Hammond, implored her fans not to be complacent about health concerns.
“It’s all happened so quickly and I’m so sorry to post something like this on here but I hope it helps anyone who might be worrying, or suffering in silence,” Roberts, 42, explained. “PLEASE make sure you get checked out if you have ANY concerns.
“The sooner you’re able to see your GP or talk to someone the sooner you can get help. If I hadn’t I might not be so lucky.”

Adele Roberts reassured friends and fans alike with her optimistic outlook and can-do attitude.
“I’m going to have surgery tomorrow to remove the tumour and then see if I need anymore treatment or if the cancer has spread,” she continued.
“So far the outlook is positive and I feel so lucky that I can be treated. It’s just the start of my journey but I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.”
Since her post Sunday evening (24 October), Roberts’ Radio 1 colleagues have flocked to Instagram to show their support.
The Official Chart Show host Scott Mills commented: “We all love you Adele. Its amazing you posted this. You’re awesome and you’ve GOT this.”
Clara Amfo wrote: “Love you so much.” Former member of The Saturdays, Mollie King, shared similar words of support: “Sending you so much love Adele!”
Vigil actress Suranne Jones, singer Jessie Ware and BBC Radio 1Xtra host Yasmin Evans were among the other well wishers.
Earlier this month Roberts was the recipient of the Attitude Broadcast Award for her work on Radio 1 and her efforts to increase LGBT+ representation on UK airwaves.
