Lil Nas X celebrates Grammy nominations in the most Lil Nas X way possible

Lil Nas X celebrated his not one, not two, but five Grammy Award nominations in, well, the most Lil Nas X possible.

Nominations for the 64th annual Grammy Awards, announced Tuesday (23 November), saw a whole host of LGBT+ talent be recognised.

For giving a lap dance to Satan in his breakout single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)“, Lil Nas X earned three nods with song of the year, record of the year and best music video.

Dancing naked in a prison in “Industry Baby” drew the rapper a best melodic rap performance nomination.

The chart-topping (or bottoming, rather) Montero itself received a nomination for one of the Grammys’ most prestigious categories, album of the year.

Lil Nas X is ‘gonna c*m his pants’ after five Grammy nomination

Nas, the 22-year-old known as Montero Hill off-stage, could have played it cool, but then pigs would be flying, hell would have frozen over and he’d now be a top.

“I’M GONNA F**KIN C*M IN MY PANTSSS,” Nas tweeted. “HOLY S**T.”

He had just found out that Montero had been put in the running for album of the year. And his responses to his four other nominations were similarly chaotic.

The limit simply did not exist for how many Twitter users were asking to be Nas’ underwear. We don’t blame them.

The Recording Academy’s nominations amounted to a stunning repudiation of the many, many Christian commentators and conservative lawmakers who sought to squash Lil Nas X’s success.

But Nas, the clapback champ, has shrugged off his critics with his whip-smart tweets while proving that he was more than a one-hit-wonder following his TikTok-fuelled radio fixture, “Old Town Road”.

The Atlanta-born hitmaker topped the charts – with Montero opening with 147 million streams – with his winking lyrics as he became an openly gay pop culture juggernaut.

His previous eight-track EP released in 2019, 7, was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys last year.

Montero itself captured Nas’ rise. His first official LP featured a constellation of guest spots by Elton John, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat and Miley Cyrus across 15 tracks.

And this certainly isn’t lost on the musician, who after tweeting about his semen-stained underwear in all caps, took a moment to pause and reflect on his years-long journey.

“Don’t have to win a single award,” he tweeted. “Truly thankful for all the insight this year has brought me.

“And thankful for the journey. Love u, guys.”
