Britney Spears has teased her return to music, reminding the world why they fell in love with her all those years ago.

In true Britney form, she revealed theĀ ā€œnew songā€ in a cryptic post to her nearly 38 million followers on Instagram. The singer shared a video of herself singing some amazing high notes and soulful runs in front of a bathroom mirror.

“I want you to know just what I…” she sings.

The post was accompanied by a lengthy caption, which has since been removed, in which Spears told fans she had realised she ā€œneeded to be my own cheerleaderā€ and criticised her family for their role in the controversial conservatorship.

She wrote: ā€œI just realized this today guys ā€¦ after what my family tried to do to me three years ago ā€¦ I needed to be my own cheerleader !!!! God knows they werenā€™t ā€¦ā€

The ā€œGimme Moreā€ hitmaker explained that she had looked herself up online and went on to list her achievements, which include being a ā€œMulti-platinum, Grammy Award-winning pop icon” and “one of the most successful and celebrated entertainers in pop history with nearly 100 million records sold worldwideā€.

ā€œIn the US alone, she has sold more than 70 million albums, singles and songs, according to Nielsen Music,ā€ Spears added.
ā£
She continued: ā€œSpears has sold 33.6 million albums in the U.S. and ranks as the 18th-best selling album artist in the Nielsen era. Her songs have drawn 25 billion in cumulative radio airplay audience and 2.6 billion on-demand U.S. audio and video streams combined and sheā€™s sold 39.8 million singles (36.9 million via downloads)ā£.ā€

Spears concluded the post by promising that a ā€œnew song is in the worksā€, and said she would be giving fans more details in the future. She added that the video is not her ā€œauditioning for anythingā€ but is instead ā€œreminding myself and the world of who I amā€.

She wrote: ā€œYes ā€¦ I will be my own cheerleader ā€¦ why ???? Iā€™m here to remind my white ā€œclassyā€ family that I havenā€™t forgotten what they did to me nor will I ever forget !!!!ā£ā€

Celebrities and fans alike were thrilled to hear Britney Spears showing off her world-renowned vocal prowess.

Spears’ fiancĆ©, Sam Asghari, commented that he “fn love this soo much”, which is a sentiment all Britney fans share. Miley Cyrus declared that Spears’ singing was “#vocalbible”.

Zak Maoui, British GQ’s style editor, joked that Spears “mightā€™ve just cured us of omicron” with the new video.

The pop star was freed from her 13-year conservatorship last month ā€“ a legal arrangement that controlled much of her personal and professional life, largely overseen by her father Jamie Spears.

In damning testimony before court, Spears likened the ā€œabusiveā€ conservatorship to ā€œsex traffickingā€. She had vowed never to perform until she was free from her father.

Shortly after her conservatorship was terminated, Britney Spears hinted she had begun her first project, saying she joined a movie called ā€œThe Idolā€.

She didnā€™t offer many details about the project to her millions of Instagram followers, but she promised the film was ā€œguaranteed to have hits and a lot of bright picsā€.
