Drag Race season 14 “is how it’s supposed to be”, according to trans queens Kerri Colby and Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté.

Kerri and Kornbread are among the 14 queens vying for Drag Race‘s $100,000 prize and the coveted title of America’s next drag superstar.

Both queens are trans women hailing from Los Angeles, marking the first time Drag Race has cast two out trans women in a regular American season, and are guaranteed to make waves in the competition with their bold, vivacious personalities.

Ahead of the start of the new series, the season 14 queens sat down with Entertainment Weekly to spill all the hot tea and what fans could expect from the competition. Kerri and Kornbread also discussed the influence of the trans community in drag and trans representation in the franchise.

“There’s so much of drag that has been influenced by trans women over the years, especially trans women of colour,” Kerri said.

She continued: “I’m so glad that we have that opportunity to showcase it, but not just like be a trendsetter but also open that door so we can just keep it going.

“This is how it’s supposed to be.”

Discussing their friendship, Kornbread said that Kerri was among the first people to know about her transition, and the pair quickly bonded over their shared experiences.

“When I got to Drag Race, it was definitely me starting everything, and she walked me through a lot of it,” she explained. “She’s dealt with every last one of my mood swings; she’s dealt with every last one of my body dysmorphia moments.”

Kornbread gushed that Kerri had “literally walked me through so much of my transition”, and she said “no one understands how much” her fellow queen has “done for me personally”.

“She’s not my drag mom, but I tell her she’s definitely partly my trans mom,” Kornbread added.

Kornbread then shared she had realised that the queens “influence people more than you know on this show”.

“Honey, it’s definitely a journey to be seen,” Kerri chimed in. “This season – I’mma just say it now – is a very tran-tastic season, period.”

The other season 14 queens joyfully agreed with Kerri’s statement, even clapping and cheering for their sisters.

RuPaul’s Drag Race season 14 will kick off on 7 January.
