Scream queen Neve Campbell was once dragged through a forest by a hungry bear

Neve Campbell, who stars as Sidney Prescott in the Scream franchise, has recalled a terrifying experience of being attacked by a bear on the set of another film.

In an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the Scream actor explained how when she was 17 she played a role where she was supposed to be “one with the animals”.

The film crew decided to bring a bear on set and asked Neve Campbell to give it a bottle of Coke.

Later, they suggested that she should “dip your hand in honey and just run. And when you get to the tree over there, turn your hand out and feed the bear”.

Being young, Campbell “wanted to please everyone” and agreed to dip her hands in honey.

However, the bear wasn’t interested in eating the honey.

“I dipped my hand in honey and I run to this rock and I turn around, and I put my hand out, and the bear is not slowing down, and he’s not coming for my hand,” she told Clarkson.

All I can think to say is: ‘He’s biting me’

She added: “He grabs me by the leg and he pulls me through the forest. My mother was visiting set and she’s screaming.

“The whole crew is frozen because nobody can believe what’s happening. All I can think to say is, ‘He’s biting me,’ like it’s not obvious.”

Luckily, there was a bear wrangler on set who came to her rescue, by “throwing rocks” and distracting the creature.

After listening to her story, Clarkson remarked that “insane things happen to you all” whilst filming.

Neve Campbell simply concluded by saying: “It’s so silly, but we get asked to do silly things.”

The fifth instalment of the Scream franchise arrives in cinemas in the UK Friday (14 January). The new film will star a queer character, Mindy, who is played by actress Jasmin Savoy Brown.
