Fans have just realised what links And Just Like That and The Golden Girls
Believe it or not, the Sex And The City reboot characters are the same age as The Golden Girls and fans don’t know how to react.
As And Just Like That… continues to make headlines thanks to some of its eyebrow-raising plots, some viewers couldn’t help but notice that Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) are also in their “golden years” in the revival series.
Yep, the ladies are all in their fifties, which means that they are at a similar age to beloved characters Dorothy (Beatrice Arthur), Rose (Betty White), Blache (Rue McClanahan) during the first season of the classic sitcom comedy – Sophie (Estelle Getty) was in her eighties.
It goes without saying the two shows reveal the stark difference between how society views women in their fifties now compared to the 80s, and Twitter users can’t wrap their heads around it.
The fact that the sex in the city characters are the same age as the golden girls characters blows my mind a little bit

The other day, I learned that the gals from SATC/AJLT are the slightly older than The Golden Girls were and I will now never be the same.— Sara_✨ (@sosarasaid) December 14, 2021
Just Googled: When “The Golden Girls” started, Rue McClanahan was four years younger than the ladies of “And Just Like That”.— Jennifer Senior (@JenSeniorNY) January 1, 2022
Just read that, during the taping of their first season, the cast of The Golden Girls was the same age as the cast of And Just Like That… pic.twitter.com/Rn9U5H0ITg— Mauricio (@m_____auricio) January 12, 2022
“The main characters in the first season of Golden Girls are younger than in the current Sex and the City (53/54 in GG and 54/55 in And Just Like That!) Amazing how different our view of women at that age is now,” one viewer commented.

Obviously our perception of what it means to be in one's 50s, 60s, etc. has changed quite a bit over the last 35 years, but here, a lot of it does come down to styling and hair dye (which is a plot point on AJLT).
The Golden Girls were also vibrant working women who fucked!— Louis Peitzman (@LouisPeitzman) December 10, 2021
In season 1 of The Golden Girls, Blanche is 53, Dorothy is 53, and Rose is 55.

Based on the evidence presented by the ladies during the first year of The Golden Girls, Dorothy and Rose are both 55, Blanche is in her early 50s, and Sophia is 80.
The Golden Girls ran for seven seasons from 1985 to 1992 and continues to be one of the most loved sitcoms in history.
The series has been trending again in recent weeks after Betty White became the last cast member to pass away, with the actress dying on 31 December, aged 99.
Meanwhile, the first season of And Just Like That… premiered in December 2021 with a mixed response from viewers.
Some labelled its attempts to introduce issues of race as ham-fisted and tone-deaf, while others lamented over the fact the fun nature of the series seemed to be missing and struggled to watch the “cringe” sex scenes.
And Just Like That… airs on Thursdays at 9pm on the Sky Comedy channel.
