Joe Lycett feels ‘f**king fantastic’ after hilariously trolling Tory government with fake Sue Gray report

Joe Lycett released a passionate statement calling out the government after he caused “mass panic” with the release of his fake Sue Gray report earlier this week.
Thursday (27 January) saw the comedian tweeted a parody of Gray’s eagerly anticipated report on the lockdown-breaking Downing Street parties that said MPs had a WhatApp group called Down it Street.
His trolling document was so good that several MPs reportedly thought the document was real, which was an even better result than the funnyman had been expecting.
Posting a statement in reaction to the confusion, the 33-year-old comedian took the chance to call out the Tory government for the reported disregard of their own rules.

“Well it’s been an odd couple of days. I catfished (sort of accidentally) Nadine Dorries and then supposedly catfished (sort of accidentally) the whole government,” he began. “I wrote some jokes on Twitter, some dumb people (some in our government) found them plausible rather than funny and now I’m in most of the newspapers.”
Joe Lycett then spoke about the death of a close friend and revealed that loves ones had been unable to have a proper funeral for him, due to government-imposed rules that prevented large gatherings.
The Taskmaster star went on to condemn the government for their hypocrisy as he added: “To hell with my dead friend, they think, and all your dead friends and dead relatives. You followed the rules and we didn’t but we’re in power and that’s all that matters so spin on it.”
The Great British Sewing Bee presenter claimed that the government led by Boris Johnson are “about power and little else” as he continued: “They torch traditions and institutions with ease if it helps them retain their grip.”

Joe Lycett concluded by saying that it feels “absolutely f**king fantastic” to have caused “mass panic” after sections of the government initially believed his parody was real.
Senior civil servant Gray’s report on lockdown-breaking parties at Downing Street was expected to arrive this week. But news that the Metropolitan Police is now opening its own investigation appears to have delayed it, with some in Westminster now saying it won’t be published until Monday (31 January) at the earliest.
We’ll be waiting with bated breath to see if the actual Sue Gray report mentions “Down It Street” and “Twateral Flow”. Stranger things have happened.
