M&S launches an LGBT+ edition of its iconic Colin the Caterpillar cake for Valentine’s Day
M&S is making its popular Colin the Caterpillar cake LGBT+ this year – and cue the conservative meltdowns.
Last year fans of the cake could get Colin and Connie in a pack together, but this year M&S is getting more inclusive.
This is because for 2022, the caterpillar cake is available in its first ever same-gender pairing.
This means you can get a set featuring two Colin or Connie cakes, which are priced at £10 as part of the store’s Valentine’s Day range.
The stand alone or bundle Colin the Caterpillar cakes are available in-store or from marksandspencer.com.

M&S adds pronouns to name badges to ‘show allyship’ to trans colleagues
In November 2021 M&S introduced the option of pronouns on its staff name badges, so that customers know how to address employees correctly.
The retailer said its new gender inclusivity drive came after staff asked for the choice to display their pronouns at work.
“Recently, we introduced pronoun name badges for our colleagues, encouraging as many of them as possible to wear whichever combination of pronouns is right for them,” M&S said on LinkedIn.
Employees at M&S stores and offices across the UK now have the option to add “He/Him/His”, “She/Her/Hers” or “They/Them/Their” beneath their name.
M&S Food PR manager David Parke proudly shared his own pronoun badge, saying it had “helped start some very necessary conversations around gender identity and non-binary experiences”.
“Giving people the option to display their pronouns at work is really important as it encourages them to show allyship towards trans and non-binary colleagues,” he told PinkNews.
