You can name a cockroach after your ex and watch them squirm for Valentine’s Day

Hemsley Conservation Centre brings back "name a cockroach after your ex" for Valentine's Day

Feeling less than loving towards your ex right now? One zoo is providing the chance to name a cockroach after them to help make your Valentine’s Day a little more fun.

Forget roses, chocolates and romantic cards, the Hemsley Conservation Centre is helping people to celebrate Valentine’s Day with their cheeky fundraising scheme.

As part of the zoo’s annual “name a cockroach after your ex” event, they are once again “offering the chance to name a cockroach in honour of you or your friend’s worthless ex-‘someone’ on this special holiday of love for just £1.50.”

The cockroaches don’t just have to be named your ex, you could even choose to name your least favourite politician!

After making your donation to name a roach, you’ll receive a downloadable certificate and the chance to see the name revealed on a special roach board that gets unveiled on V-day.

The HCC, located in Kent, will then use the £1.50 donation for conservation projects at the zoo.

In 2020, the funds raised went into repairing pathways and expanding and upgrading their feeding room.

The zoo is asking for first names only and all submissions made between 10 – 15 February will be entered into a special roach book that will also appear in the enclosure.

Ever since HCC launched their tongue-in-cheek scheme, other zoos have followed in their footsteps – with some even allowing you to watch along as your named cockroaches get eaten by another zoo animal.

Yum.
