HBO Max’s Peacemaker just confirmed major character is bisexual

Peacemaker, played by John Cena, looks incredulously at other people gathered around a table

Peacemaker has revealed that one of the HBO Max series’ characters is bisexual, welcoming the first on-screen queer man to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

Needless to say, there are spoilers for Peacemaker episode seven below.

In the showā€™s seventh episode, titled ā€œStop Dragon My Heart Aroundā€, Peacemaker, aka Christopher Smith (John Cena), faces off against his father, who is a white supremacist villain named the White Dragon (Robert Patrick).

During the fight, White Dragon, aka August Smith, gains the upper hand over Peacemaker and beats up Peacemaker while surrounded by a group of his evil cohorts.

As he stands on the Peacemakerā€™s chest, White Dragon viciously belittles his son and tells him everything he did wrong in his fatherā€™s eyes. This includes the fact that Peacemaker has slept with both men and women in the past.

ā€œI knew you was unclean when you was born, and even more so when you killed your brother,ā€ White Dragon says. ā€œI knew when you listened to that devil music.ā€

He continues: ā€œI knew when you shaved your body like a woman.

ā€œI knew when you slept with the w****s of polluted bloodā€¦ and men!ā€

White the scene was far from a joyful coming out moment, fans reacted positively to the revelation that Peacemaker is bisexual on social media.

The revelation that Peacemaker is bisexual shouldnā€™t come as a surprise to fans of the series. Earlier in the show, Peacemaker claims at one point that he hasnā€™t had sex in four years before correcting himself to say that he hasnā€™t had sex with a woman in many years.

He is later seen in bed after a threesome with Amber (Alison Araya) and Vigilante (Freddie Stroma).

Peacemaker is the first queer man to appear on-screen in the DCEU, but he is far from the first LGBT+ character to be featured across the DC universe.

The DCEU already has one queer character with Margot Robbieā€™s portrayal of the iconic villain Harley Quinn. The franchise confirmed in Birds of Prey that Harley is bisexual, and Robbie said she had been ā€œpesteringā€ for a Harley and Poison Ivy romance in the movies.

Peacemaker isnā€™t the only queer character on the HBO Max show. Fans found out in the first episode that Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), who is part of Peacemakerā€™s team, is a lesbian and has taken the job so she can support her wife.

DC has also welcomed various LGBT+ heroes across the CWā€™s expansive Arrowverse TV shows, which sit separate from the DCEU films and TV series.

This includes Captain Cold, Dreamer, John Constantine, Spooner, Kate Kane and much more. HBOā€™s animated Harley Quinn series has featured her in a queer relationship with Poison Ivy.
