Rylan Clark opens up about mental health ‘crisis’ that hit him ‘like a baseball bat’
Rylan Clark has opened up about the impact of his recent mental health “crisis”.
The Strictly: It Takes Two presenter, who is currently resting after recently posting a picture from a hospital bed, spoke candidly about his mental health during a conversation with singer Ella Henderson on his Ry-union podcast.
Reflecting on his struggles following his split from husband Dan Neal, the 33-year-old explained: “Mental health is so prevalent, it’s one of those that things people are talking more and more openly about which, I never in my life thought that I would go through a crisis like that.
“But I did, ultimately, and it literally hit me round the face like a baseball bat, because I always thought I was too strong for it.”
He continued: “Like, I’m never going to let anything like that happen to me, but then it does and it’s really, really hard to deal with.”
Rylan’s candour came days after he posted a snap of himself hooked up to an IV drip on 11 February.
However, he was quick to clarify that he was “on the mend” from a mystery illness as he wrote: “Finally home after an extended trip to Costa del hospital.
“Slowly on the mend. Won’t be on the wireless tomorrow. Resting up. Be back soon.”
Rylan had been speaking about feeling unwell in previous days but did not confirm what caused him to visit the hospital.

Fans immediately sent get-well-soon messages and told the former Big Brother’s Bit on the Side host to get some rest.
The beloved star previously revealed he was admitted to hospital after becoming ‘quite ill’ and fearing he wouldn’t be able to continue living following his marriage broke down last year.
The Supermarket Sweep presenter’s split from husband Dan Neal prompted him to take a four-month break from the spotlight to deal with the heartbreak but he revealed things got “very bad” during that time.
Speaking to The Guardian, he stated: “I think I’m finding a new ‘me’ now. I’m so good at being Rylan. I know my job – what’s right, what’s wrong, what works what doesn’t – I do Rylan really well.
“But actually, I didn’t realise how much Ross I’d lost. Sometimes you just want to f**k off over to the garden centre to buy a plant.”
