This is what critics are saying about C**k, Jonathan Bailey and Taron Egerton’s hot West End play

Cock starring Jonathan Bailey and Taron Egerton recently opened on the West End – and the first reviews are in.
After much anticipation the revival of the show premiered at Ambassadors Theatre on 5 March.
It stars Bridgerton’s Bailey, who plays John, a man who identifies as gay, and is happy in himself and with his boyfriend, played by Egerton.
However, when he meets ‘the woman of his dreams’ he begins to question his sexuality and how he labels himself.
So what exactly are the critics saying about Cock?
In a four-star review, the Evening Standard open their opinion piece saying: “No, you don’t see one, and no, it isn’t really about that”.
They describe the play as “eloquently stylised” that’s an “emotionally charged piece despite the lack of character names and the skimpy backstories”.
There’s also praise for Bailey who “brings physical precision, depth and occasional roaring fury to the blank canvas of John”.
WhatsOnStage say the play is “terrifically clever and never dull as it unfolds over an unbroken hour and 45 minutes,” in a four-star review.
“But it is quite chilly. What saves the night are the performances,” adding that the two lead actor’s appeal have “audiences queuing round the block for the play”.
In a mixed three-star review, The Stage says the play explores relationships and love in ways that’s “frank and funny and, at times, wince-inducingly cruel”.
They add that there’s “little nods towards tenderness between Egerton and Bailey” but they’re “fleeting”, with praise going towards their co-star Jade Anouka, who plays W.
“Anouka has the hardest task, as the woman who quite literally comes between them, but as an always-compelling stage performer, she gives as good as she gets,” they say.
However they criticise the rigidness around sexuality, as bisexuality is mentioned in a “throwaway fashion”, with the play suggesting there are “only two possible outcomes to his dilemma” – that he is either gay or straight – making it “feel more dated than it is”.
