Jennifer Lopez gags with epic iHeartRadio performance starring Drag Race icons and Billy Porter
Jennifer Lopez reminded us all why she’s an icon as she enlisted the help of several Drag Race icons for a medley performance of her greatest hits at the iHeartRadio Music Awards.
The 52-year-old superstar was honoured with the Icon Award on Tuesday (March 23) and had the audience gagged as her performance kicked off in the most epic way possible.
Pose star Billy Porter appeared on the Shrine Auditorium stage surrounded by a group of dancers as he stated: “The word for tonight is icon, legendary, mesmerizing, show stopping.”
The actor then proceeded to strut his stuff on the runway in a pink two-piece before a group of drag queens hit the catwalk wearing J-Lo’s most famous outfits.
Drag Race season 14’s Kerri Colby kicked off the runway once again wearing that iconic Versace dress. She was joined by queens including Naysha Lopez, fellow season 14 queen Jorgeous, Morgan McMichaels, April Carrion and Laganja Estranja
The queens all channelled iconic J-Lo looks including the outfit she wore performing in the halftime show at Super Bowl LV and her stripper character in Hustlers.
The New York native thrilled the crowd with songs including “On My Way” and “Get Right”, wearing a fur coat emblazoned with “Equality”.
Fellow musicians such as Lil Nas X, Williow Smith and Halsey were spotted dancing away in the crowd as Lopez performed a classic dance break amid the medley.
The “On The Floor” hitmaker later received her Icon Awards for “her impact on pop culture, longevity and continued relevance as a touring and radio force.”
In her acceptance speech, Lopez stated: “I really do it for you guys, I really do. And because of the love you give me … I can overcome negativity and so can you, every single moment, and let me tell you something else – I’m just getting started.”
She continued: “Because of you, I get to do what I love the most in life and that is the most wonderful blessing. That’s a gift that you give me and I just want to say thank you for that.
“Thank you to everyone who comes to a show, streams a song, sees a movie, follows me. You guys are the ones who give me the opportunity every day to live a life I couldn’t even imagine would come true when I was a little girl growing up in the Bronx.”
The Marry Me actress added: “You did that for me. You made that dream come true. I’m shaking! And I will always be grateful to each and every one of you for that.
“And I will never forget it, and I will never, ever take it for granted. So I want to say thank you to every one of you for believing in me when other people didn’t, even when I didn’t. Thank you for teaching me who I really am.”
