Hulu drops first look at Moana’s Auli’i Cravalho in new queer rom-com with Rowan Blanchard
The first images from Rowan Blanchard and Auli’i Cravalho’s new queer rom-com Crush have dropped and it looks set to be an absolute treat.
Hulu dropped the first look at Crush ahead of its release on the US streaming platform.
Produced by Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne, Crush tells the story of an aspiring artist who is forced, against her will, to join her high school track team.
She uses the opportunity to pursue the girl she’s had a lasting crush on but soon finds herself falling for another teammate instead as she begins to realise what real love feels like.

The new images show co-stars Rowan Blanchard and Auli’i Cravalho cosying up to each other – a world away from the drama that unfolded on social media last year.
Crush cast and ‘biphobia’ allegations
Rowan Blanchard and Auli’i Cravalho play lead roles in the film, which focuses on “queer joy” rather than a coming out story.
The welcomed casting sees two LGBT+ stars play queer characters at a time when straight, cisgender actors playing gay characters remains a much-debated topic.
Cravalho, who starred in Moana, came out as bisexual in April 2020 receiving a huge response from fans, while Disney star Blanchard identifies as queer.
Sadly, it appears the duo might have clashed during filming after Cravalho appeared to accuse her co-star of being ‘biphobic’ in a since-deleted TikTok video.
Blanchard hasn’t commented on the TikTok, but has previously defended herself after she was accused of liking biphobic tweets in 2019, saying: “I’m queer as f**k! My boyfriend’s a trans man and honestly none of [you] guys know s**t about my private life!”
The film also stars Will & Grace‘s Megan Mullaly alongside Aasif Mandvi and Michelle Buteau. Isabella Ferreira, Tyler Alvarez, Teala Dunn, Rico Paris, and Addie Weyrich round out the cast.
Crush release date
Crush arrives on Hulu on April 29 in the US. International release details are yet to be announced.
Where can I watch the Crush trailer?
The official trailer isn’t out yet but first-look images have given us a peek at the two leads.
In the shots, Rowan Blanchard and Auli’i Cravalho’s characters are shown on the soccer field and bonding in a dark, neon-lit corner of a party. Another image appears to show them having a conversation with someone at the bash.
