JoJo Siwa claims she ‘wasn’t invited’ to Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards: ‘I’m not sure why’
JoJo Siwa has claimed that she was not invited to the 2022 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, despite earning a nomination in their favourite social music star category.
The 18-year-old, who has been working with the children’s TV network since 2016, was missing on Saturday night (10 April) at the annual event which was hosted by actress Miranda Cosgrove and NFL star Rob Gronkowski.
As fans began to question why the Dance Moms alum was not at the ceremony, Siwa said in an Instagram video: “A lot of you have been asking me why I’m not at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards tonight and the answer is very simple. I wasn’t invited.”
The “Boomerang” singer added: “I’m not sure why, but I just didn’t get an invite.” Nickelodeon is yet to respond to Siwa’s claim.

The only year that @itsjojosiwa didn’t get invited to the kids choice awards is when she comes out and cuts her hair?????? Sus @Nickelodeon— Bri (@bby_briiiiiii) April 10, 2022
Obsessed with the teenage girl celebrities who don’t take shit from their network of employment and refuse to be anything but themselves. Being connected to a kids channel shouldn’t mean you have to stop being yourself. @itsjojosiwa and @oliviarodrigo y’all are my hero’s. pic.twitter.com/bLMeC5BRYF— Morgan 🌿🥂 (Taylor's Version) (@ohheyimmorgan) April 10, 2022
The hitmaker, who has a thorny relationship with the network, later reposted an Instagram Story that someone tagged her in a clip in which her song “One Chance” could be heard playing at the awards show.
“So my song made it, but I didn’t,” she said with a sarcastic laugh.
Siwa’s friends and fans quickly took to social media to share their support for the YouTube star.
“Their loss sweetness,” wrote YouTuber Olivia Jade, as actress Mollee Gray added: “Probably ‘cos you are the colour of the rainbow and they’re just orange.”
Fellow Dancing with the Stars alum Brian Austin Green wrote: “F**k the Kids’ Choice Awards! You are too good for them.”
“Nickelodeon I’m gonna write a note,” Jersey Shore star Snooki added.
Some fans argued that the lack of invite may have been due to the fact Siwa came out last year and has recently changed her signature look from a ponytail to a pixie cut.
One fan stated: “The only year that Jojo Siwa didn’t get invited to the Kids’ Choice Awards is when she comes out and cuts her hair? Sus, Nickelodeon.”
In September 2021, Siwa took to Twitter to voice frustration about Nickelodeon’s JoJo Siwa D.R.E.A.M. The Tour.
“My movie musical [The J Team] was just released (with six new original songs),” she wrote. “Nickelodeon told me today that I’m not allowed to perform/add any of the songs from the film into my show. These are MY songs, MY voice, MY writing. Does this seem fair???”
She added at the time: “There is no reason that this music should not be included. Working for a company as a real human being treated as only a brand is fun until it’s not.”
Fortunately, Siwa is busy focusing on the future as she prepares to make her TV return after signing on to as a new judge for the upcoming season of So You Think You Can Dance.
The reality dancing competition was paused in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic but Fox announced on 4 April that it will make its triumphant return this year with an all-new panel of judges.
Competitors will now face the judgment of Siwa, Glee star Matthew Morrison and previous SYTYCD contestant and judge Stephen “tWitch” Boss.
Host Cat Deeley will also be returning for season 17, which is set to premiere in May.
