Drag Race’s Kornbread addresses reports she’s quitting drag for good
Drag Race season 14’s Miss Congeniality, Kornbread ‘The Snack’ Jeté, won’t be quitting drag anytime soon.
Kornbread previously suggested that she would be stepping away from drag in the coming years to focus on acting.
Speaking to NBC News on the red carpet of the Drag Race season 14 finale, she said of her focus post-show: “I’m going to finish my tours out, and I’m going to finish my transition how I want to finish it. I just want to go straight into acting and doing what I’ve been doing.
Kornbread reportedly told NBC she expected to do drag for another three or so years, adding: “I want to focus 100 per cent on transitioning and 100 per cent on the career I’ve started, which is musical theatre and acting.
“So, drag just did what it needed to do [and] gave me the outlet that I needed. I enjoy drag, [but] I don’t think I’ll be doing it for too much longer.”
After the reports sparked fear among fans, Kornbread has clarified that though she wants to switch up her primary focus, she is not quitting drag.
According to Out Magazine, Kornbread attended Roscoe’s Tavern’s viewing party for the RuPaul’s Drag Race season 14 finale alongside Thorgy Thor, Heidi N Closet, Naysha Lopez, and Batty Davis.
After Lopez asked her about the reports, Kornbread reportedly said: “So, clearly it was clickbait. They did it very well — a phenomenal job to the people who put up the articles.”
She continued: “Before I started drag, I was doing musical theatre, and I was acting, but I was acting as my previous self, [under my] dead name.
“But now that I’m getting more into my body and who I am, I want to focus on my transition completely. I want to finish everything that I want to get done, and I’m going back into musical theatre and acting.
“I love club appearances, and I love performing. I’m going to be doing more for the next three years. But I want to focus primarily on something else. They just clickbait and did it completely wrong. I’m not quitting drag. Kornbread will always be a part of me.”
She added: “I’m still going to do drag; I’m just giving it a break.”
It comes after Drag Race UK’s Bimini opened up about why they no longer consider themselves a drag queen.
“When I put on a wig and makeup I see it as still me,” they wrote on Instagram. “I’m the same person just slightly more glam. Plus I don’t tuck anyway because you all know what’s there.”
Kornbread made Drag Race herstory as part of season 14, which saw five trans queens compete.
Kornbread and Kerri Colby were out as trans women when the season launched, with three more queens – Bosco, Jasmine Kennedy and eventual winner, Willow Pill, coming out while the season aired.
Willow Pill has also said that they might “phase a little bit out of drag”.
