Lady Gaga ‘in talks to play Harley Quinn’ in Joker 2 with Joaquin Phoenix
Lady Gaga is reportedly in talks to join the upcoming Joker 2 – which is rumoured to be a musical.
Following the success of 2019’s Oscar-winning Joker, director Todd Phillips has been co-writing a sequel with Scott Silver.
On 7 June, Phillips confirmed that the upcoming project is named Joker: Folie à Deux. The title refers to when two or more individuals are affected by the same mental health condition.
Joaquin Phoenix is set to return, with Phillips having shared a photo of holding the script. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, the one and only Lady Gaga is in early talks to join him.
Gaga would take on the role of the iconic Arkham Asylum psychiatrist turned criminal mastermind, Harley Quinn, who has a turbulent relationship with the Joker.
What’s more, sources told the outlet that Joker 2 will be a musical.
While the star is said to be in early talks, with no official casting announcement, her little monsters are already going into overdrive.

Lady Gaga’s most recent role was in Ridley Scott’s camp drama, House of Gucci. She has previously worked with Todd Phillips, who produced 2018’s A Star Is Born.
Gaga was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her work in the musical, and won the Academy Award for Best Song, for “Shallow”, so another team-up makes sense.
Harley Quinn has been played by Margot Robbie in recent DC films such as The Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey. However, Joker exists in an alternative DC universe, so it seems that Robbie isn’t retiring the role just yet.
The first Joker made over $1 billion in the box office, becoming one of the highest-grossing R-rated films of all time. And with more details on Joker: Folie à Deux yet to be released, it’s very possible that Gaga will be getting on her Joker face soon.
