LGBTQ+ Marvel fans are praising actor Dave Bautista after he shared a beautiful Pride message dedicated to his lesbian mother.

Bautista, who plays Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, took to Instagram to share a photo of himself wearing a rainbow t-shirt emblazoned with the words ‘Be You’.

He added a Pride Month message in celebration of his lesbian mother, which read: “I was always proud of who my mom was because she was always proud of who she was.

“In your face, f**k you if you don’t like it, unapologetically loud and proud. And her son payed [sic] attention. BE LOUD, BE PROUD, BE YOU. ❤️?️‍??? #ProudSonofaLesbian”.

It’s not the first time Dave Bautista, who was a WWE wrestler before turning to acting, has come out swinging for LGBQ+ rights.

In 2016 he spoke out after boxer-turned-politician Manny Pacquiao quoted a Bible passage saying gay men should be put to death.

“My mom happens to be a lesbian so I don’t f**king take that sh*t. I don’t think it’s funny,” he said in an interview with TMZ.

In 2019, he again leapt to his mother’s defence, shutting down a bishop who asked for Catholics not to celebrate Pride because of its damaging influence on children.

“My mom’s a lesbian. I think I turned out OK,” he said.

Dave Bautista isn’t the only Marvel star to show his support for the LGBTQ+ community this Pride Month.

Chris Evans, known for his role as Captain America, spoke out in defence of LGBTQ+ representation on 13 June, condemning the UAE’s censorship of a same-sex kiss in his new film, Lightyear.

Bautista will next be seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, scheduled for release in May 2023.

He has said that it will be his final outing as Drax.
