‘Ridiculous’ homophobic ‘straight pride’ poster pinned to church door

A straight pride poster celebrating so-called “normal people” was torn down after being found on the doors of a Glasgow church.
According to the Daily Record, a member of the public found and removed the poster after noticing it on the front door of the Cathcart Congregational Church on Monday (11 July).
On the poster was an illustration of a mixed-gender couple and their three children with the words: “Straight pride – because you wouldn’t be here without normal people.”
A local resident shared an image of the poster to a local community Facebook page, saying it was “ridiculous and homophobic”.
“I took it down after taking this photo, so it doesn’t need to burn any other LGBT+ eyeballs,” she said.
One fellow local called it “absolutely disgusting”, with another saying the person who put up the flyer was a “scum bag”.
It is unknown who placed the poster on the door and whether they have any connection to the Church itself.
This comes several weeks after anti-LGBTQ+ protestors in the city attempted to crash Glasgow Pride, Scotland’s largest LGBTQ+ festival.
The small group of counter-protesters carried signs deploring homosexuality as a “sin” and calling for the LGBTQ+ community to “repent”.
They stood on the fringe sections of the parade, held on 25 June.
Pride-goers circled the group – who were wearing head and chest-mounted cameras – and drowned out their chants, waving Pride flags and keeping spirits high. The group eventually took down their signs at around 3pm to cheers and whoops from the Pride crowd.
Despite the religious sentiments behind the ‘ signs, several Glasgow churches, including the Metropolitan Community Church, stressed that they were “fundamentally opposed” to what the bigots stood for.

Glasgow’s Pride this year was largely focused on advocacy for extending the conversion therapy ban to trans people, amid the UK government’s decision to exclude them from the ban.
It also came a few months after yet another poll revealed that a majority of women in Scotland back gender recognition reforms.
The poll, conducted by ComRes for the BBC, showed that one in four Scottish adults strongly supports reforms to the gender recognition process, which would make it easier for trans people to get a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC). It also found that 63 per cent of women in Scotland and 49 per cent of men are either strongly or somewhat supportive of reforms.
