Britney Spears’ ex-husband convicted of trespass and battery after ‘crashing’ her wedding
Britney Spears’ ex-husband has been convicted of trespassing and battery after he turned up at the singer’s home uninvited on her wedding day.
Jason Alexander – who was briefly married to Spears for less than three days in 2004 – was convicted of aggravated trespassing and battery stemming from the 9 June incident, the Ventura County district attorney’s office said.
Alexander, 40, pleaded no contest to the two misdemeanour charges before the California court. A judge sentenced him to time served after he spent 64 days in jail.
Spears married Sam Asghari at her Los Angeles home on 9 June. She was joined by a small but star-studded line-up of celeb wedding guests including Madonna, Paris Hilton, Selena Gomez and Drew Barrymore.
Alexander appeared uninvited at Spears’ house before the ceremony while livestreaming on Instagram, the Associated Press reported.
He entered the house and managed to make his way to the locked door of Spears’ bedroom where she was getting ready for her wedding, according to testimony at a preliminary hearing.
Prosecutors said Alexander damaged a door and “battered a security guard who attempted to remove him from the residence after he refused to comply with verbal commands to leave the premises”.
As a result of the plea, a judge issued a protective order forbidding Alexander from coming within 100 yards of Britney Spears or the security guard.
Alexander posted an Instagram Live story on the day from outside Spears’ property in which he said he was there to “crash” the wedding.
He filmed himself walking around her property and told a guest that he was “here to crash the wedding”, claiming “Britney Spears invited [him] here”.
“She’s my first wife, my only wife, I’m her first husband,” he said. “I’m here to crash the wedding.”
Alexander was later arrested and taken to a local jail.
However, the incident did not deter the wedding, and Britney Spears married Asghari just hours later.
Spears gushed on Instagram that her wedding was the “most spectacular day”. She admitted to fans that she was “so nervous all morning” before she walked down the aisle in her “dream” ceremony, adding the “party was even better” than the actual wedding.
