The hallowed EGOT status is when an individual has been awarded an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony.

Adele also wrote: “Bloody hell I’m pleased as punch! Thank you @mrbenwinston [one of the special’s executive producers] for dropping this round to me this afternoon!!”

“Thank you so much @televisionacad, I’m so so honoured to receive this. Big up to everyone involved. @griffithobservatory thank you for letting me sing up on your mountain and big love to all the other nominees x.”

The special featured a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey and live performances of 10 songs. It won four other awards for camerawork, sound mixing, direction and lighting design.

Celebrities such as Kris Jenner, Melissa McCarthy and Leonardo DiCaprio attended the awards ceremony.

The main Emmys take place on 13 September.

Among Adele’s Grammy wins are two album of the year awards for 21 and 25. She has also scooped record of the year awards for “Rolling in the Deep” and “Hello”.

She won the Oscar for best original song for her James Bond theme “Skyfall” in 2013.

Adele has opened up about the reasons she decided to scrap her Vegas residency, saying the planned shows “had no soul”.
