Drew Barrymore has spoken about her iconic rain TikTok, and confessed that she had “no idea” it would go viral.

In the unforgettable clip – which has racked up more than 4.5 million likes and nearly 23 million views – the Hollywood legend and talk show host is seen frolicking and laughing in a downpour.

“Whenever you can, go out into the rain, do not miss the opportunity,” she says, drenched by a summer storm.

Speaking to Page Six on the Harper’s Bazaar Icons Party red carpet in New York, she said of the video: “I had no idea [it would go viral].”

“I don’t know, it was just a moment… I do love the rain and I do love running out in it.”

Barrymore added she thinks too many people refrain from getting wet “because we think about the aftermath”.

“‘Do I have to be somewhere? My clothes!’ We stop ourselves from the spontaneity and rain is for everybody,” she said.

“And I love things that are for everyone.”

She has even poked fun at herself in other videos, jumping on a TikTok trend to say she was ‘scared of missing the opportunity to go out into the rain’.

Aside from being the most powerful advocate for bad weather we’ve ever seen, Barrymore also teased the third season of The Drew Barrymore Show.

“I have the most amazing premiere episode with [ex-boyfriend] Justin Long,” she said.

“I’m so happy with it. It’s personal and cool and fun and it talks about championing your ex, which is such a great thing to do in life.”
