Wait. Did Madonna just come out on TikTok? ‘If I miss, I’m gay’

Pop superstar Madonna has seemingly come out as gay in her latest TikTok and fans are excited – but also very confused.
In her TikTok, the iconic singer is holding a pair of hot pink underwear with the caption: “If I miss, I’m Gay!”, followed by her attempting to throw the underwear into a bin from afar.
Of course, she misses and ends with a dramatic flourish, leaving a lot to be unpacked in the five second video.
She hasn’t posted anything online since, but that hasn’t stopped the huge reaction to the (potential) coming out post, with TikTok at 13.2 million views at the time of writing.

The top comment, with over 100k likes, simply reads: “Did I just witness Madonna coming out, good for her.” Our sentiment exactly.
“Velma and Madonna?! A win for the lesbians,” another added.
Madonna has long been an LGBTQ+ icon, showing herself to be a fierce ally over her decades-long career.
She was an advocate for the community during the AIDS crisis, when queer people were suffering human rights abuses globally, for gay marriage and in her support for LGBTQ+ youth.
In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in 2010 she even stated: “In fact, I wouldn’t have a career if it weren’t for the gay community.”
She’s also responsible for one of the most iconically queer moments in music history, when she kissed both Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera on stage at the 2003 MTV VMAs.
Given her track record, Madonna actually coming out wouldn’t exactly be a surprise but given the cryptic nature of the video, some fans are confused about what it actually means.
There has been speculation over Madonna’s sexuality for years with some even arguing in the comments that she has always been open about not being straight.
This speculation has never been explicitly confirmed by Madonna herself.
She recently released a remake of her 2005 smash hit “Hung Up”, renamed “Hung Up on Tokischa” for 2022, which shows several clips of her and Dominican rapper Tokisha kissing.
