Whoopi Goldberg wants Lizzo for Sister Act 3 and we need this to happen
Whoopi Goldberg wants Lizzo to be among a range of vocal and acting powerhouses to join her in Sister Act 3.
The Oscar-winning actor is set to reprise her role as Deloris Van Cartier, a former nightclub singer who goes undercover as a nun named Sister Mary Clarence, in the third instalment of the beloved franchise.
Now, Goldberg revealed that the “Good As Hell” singer is among the stars she’d want to make up her dream cast for the long-awaited musical sequel. She said she’s also had her eyes on Keke Palmer and Nicki Minaj to potentially star in the film during an interview on Hell of a Week with Charlamagne Tha God.
“Hopefully we’ll get it together and get it done sooner rather than later,” Whoopi Goldberg said.
She continued: “I’m going to ask for Keke [Palmer] to come in. I want everybody to come in.
“I want Lizzo to come in. I want everybody. I want the girl with the chest, what’s her name?… Nicki [Minaj]! I want Nicki to come.”
The View co-host declared she wanted a host of people “who want to have some fun” to join the Sister Act 3 cast because she “really, desperately” needs to “have some fun”.
Whoopi Goldberg said the script for the Disney Plus project, which is a collaboration with Tyler Perry, will be delivered “by the end of this month”.
A legend like Goldberg could attract all the talent to join the iconic Sister Act franchise, and some of the actors have already expressed some interest.
Lizzo shared her love for Goldberg’s movie by paying homage to Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit during her “Juice” MTV Movie and TV Awards performance in 2019. The crowd and the Internet collectively went wild for the performance honouring the 1993 classic.
Palmer has been shooting her shot for a role in Sister Act 2 for a while now. During a 2021 appearance on The View, Palmer outright told Goldberg that she’s “available for the job” – “any job” – on the upcoming film.
“I mean, you ain’t got to say nothing now, you know, I’ll send you an email or something,” Palmer said. “Just let me know if you need me.”
The Nope star further petitioned for the part in October when she shared a fan-made poster for Sister Act 3 on social media. The faux poster put her among the dream cast alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Hocus Pocus star Bette Middler.
“God bless y’all for this manifestation over my life,” Palmer tweeted. “[Disney], this is what they asked for I’m just here to relay.”
