Taylor Swift fans think ‘High Infidelity’ is about Calvin Harris after ‘April 29th’ clue
Where was Taylor Swift on April 29th? Turns out, her Midnights track “High Infidelity” could be about Calvin Harris.
Hours after Taylor Swift released her 10th student album on Friday (21 October), she dropped an expanded 3am Edition with seven extra bonus tracks.
“High Infidelity” is the fourth bonus track featured on the 3am Edition, and its lyrics immediately had fans pulling out the magnifying glasses and detective boards.
The song frequently references the a certain date, with the refrain: “Do you really wanna know where I was April 29th?”
Genius Lyrics writes that over the course of the song, “Taylor delves in-depth into the games played within an unstable relationship and the intense pain of infidelity, caused both to the cheating partner and the partner being cheated on”.
After the April 29th line, Swift sings: “Do I really have to chart the constellations in his eyes?” In true Swift fashion, this tends to pose more questions than answers. Whose eyes are the constellations in?
Well, fans have a theory.
29 April, 2016 is the release date of the Calvin Harris (Swift’s ex) and Rihanna collaboration “This is What You Came For”. Following the song’s release, it was discovered that Taylor Swift actually co-wrote the hit under a pen name, Nils Sjoberg.
On 29 April, Harris gave an interview to Ryan Seacrest, saying that he wouldn’t collaborate with Swift, even though the two were dating at the time:
“You know, we haven’t even spoken about it. I can’t see it happening, though. No. She’s about to take a long break.”
A few months later, after they had split, TMZ reported that the interview was the breaking point for the pair – Swift reportedly felt that Harris “disrespected” her.
Harris subsequently went on a rant about Swift on social media. Not the cleanest break in the book.
Fans are now convinced that “High Infidelity” is about Calvin Harris.
But where was Taylor Swift on 29 April? On the 28 April, she was at Gigi Hadid’s birthday dinner and on 1 May she was gearing up for the first Monday in May’s Met Gala. Looks like it’s still a mystery…
After Midnights‘ release, Swift has teased a number of music videos, including one starring trans model Laith Ashley.
