Kelly Rowland was mastermind behind Little Mix, unseen X Factor video reveals: ‘They’re Destiny’s Grandchildren’
In previously unseen footage posted to Twitter, The X Factor judge Kelly Rowland has been revealed as the brains behind wildly successful and completely iconic girlband Little Mix.
The four members of the band – which became one of the most successful groups of all time, selling more than 60 million records worldwide – all initially auditioned for The X Factor as soloists.
In new footage, the Destiny’s Child star, pulls together pictures of Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jesy Nelson.
“I like these girls, I like them a lot,” Rowland says of Thirlwall and Pinnock, before moving across Edwards and Nelson and saying: “She should be in here and she should be in here. That is strong vocally.”
“It’s about… the next generation and discovering something new.”

Rowland continues, highlighting each girl’s merits and personalities. She says Pinnock’s voice has a “nice, soft texture that fills it all in”.
Judge Louis Walsh asks Rowland: “But Kelly, are they going to gel? Are they gonna gel at this last moment?”
Rowland points out they’re all getting along already, with judge Tulisa agreeing, saying: “They’re likeable, and that’s the main thing. This is so important with girlbands, they have to be likeable.”
kelly saying little mix is vocally strong is such a mother behavior idc, like thats her babies right there! https://t.co/oin6E1kf3m— . (@multifanloser) November 12, 2022
Walsh continues, asking Gary Barlow: “Do you think they’re gonna gel, Gary? Do you think they’re gonna gel, seriously?”
Despite the VO5 ad vibes, Barlow answers that they “saw them all on stage yesterday, and [Little Mix] were the ones that popped”.
Rowland points out they had already heard the four sing together and “it was nice”.
‘You listen to their voices and you know what can happen’
The band went on to win the show in 2011, since celebrating 10 years of Little Mix ahead of their split, following Jesy Nelson’s departure.
Twitter users have said Rowland deserves more credit for creating the band, who were under Tulisa’s mentorship on the show.
