After Miss California, Carrie Prejean expressed her disapproval of same-sex unions, a worldwide debate has ensued. A-list celebrities, Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus have jumped on the bandwagon, throwing their support behind same-sex marriage.

Both starlets have fervently disagreed with Prejean’s views and offered their opinions regarding the controversial topic.

Expressing her thoughts through Twitter, Britney wrote: ā€œLove is love! People should be able to do whatever makes them happy!ā€

The row follows Miss California, Carrie Prejean’s defeat on Miss America after being booed for saying “a marriage should be between a man and a woman.”

She was asked the question by celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who later called her a “dumb bitch”.

Opening up in an interview with Billy Bush for The Billy Bush Show, Carrie confessed: ā€œIt did cost me my crownā€.

But despite this, she maintained: ā€œI wouldnā€™t have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and thatā€™s all I can do.

ā€œIt is a very touchy subject and he (Hilton) is a homosexual and I see where he was coming from and I see the audience wouldā€™ve wanted me to be more politically correct,ā€ she added.

ā€œBut I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything.ā€

Ironically, in the same interview, Preejan informed viewers that while her sister is not a lesbian she is a gay rights activist.

ā€œShe supports gay people, she supports gay marriage. My beliefs have nothing to do with my sister or my mom, or whatever.ā€
