Ireland: 16-year-old accused of stamping on man’s head in ‘gay hate’ attack seeks bail
A 16-year-old who is accused of assaulting and robbing a man in an anti-gay attack is seeking bail.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Dublin Children’s Court charged with assaulting a man, and robbing him of a watch worth €1,800 (£1480), two phones, and €300 (£246).
He was remanded in custody over the incident in Dublin last month.
According to the Herald, Judge John O’Connor was told it could take up to six weeks to clarify whether the case should be heard in Circuit Court, but the boy was yesterday remanded in custody to appear again in two weeks’ time.
The judge also heard that the boy’s lawyers will take his case to the High Court next week, in a bid for him to be granted bail.
An objection to bail claimed that the boy had told police he ‘hated’ members of the gay community.
The boy has been accused of knocking the man to the ground and then stomping on him, in a gay-hate attack.
