US: Chicago radio station calls Laverne Cox a ‘t****y’
A Chicago radio station has mocked transgender actress Laverne Cox, referring to her using a transphobic slur.
Hip-hop station WGCI was promoting singer-songwriter John Legend’s new music video, which features the Orange is the New Black Star.
They tweeted: “Hehe Looks like John Legend has a tranny in his new video.”

After being contacted by The Advocate, radio host UB Rodriguez has refused to apologise for using the term, tweeting “SOMEONES MADD LMAO” , before reposting his message several times.

The station has not apologised for using the slur.
Cox features in the music video for You & I (Nobody in the World), which celebrates a diverse range of women, including a pregnant woman, a female weightlifter, and a girl with down’s syndrome.
Cox – who is also known for her trans advocacy work – featured on the cover of TIME magazine earlier this year.
