For its September issue, ELLE UK is to feature three LGBT+ icons on its covers.

The special edition ‘Rise of the Rebel’ covers will feature three LGBT+ people out of four available versions of the issue.

Actors Amandla Stenberg and Kristen Stewart will be featured on two of the covers, and transgender model Hari Nerf will feature on a third.

The fourth spot will be taken by former One Direction star Zayn Malik.

The magazine announced the covers, posting on its Instagram about Stenberg: “Amandla Stenberg: The Activist As the fashion world CHANGES beyond measure.”

Describing Stewart as “The Hollywood Non-Conformist”, and Zayn Malik as “The Popstar Refusenik”, the magazine also announces a new look and new layouts.

Earlier this year Prince William made history by posing for Attitude magazine.

But the Prince was beaten by Barack Obama who last year became the first US President in history to pose for an LGBT+ magazine.

Laverne Cox last year appeared dressed as the Statue of Liberty on the cover of Entertainment Weekly.
