Has Jason Mraz just come out as bisexual?
Jason Mraz may have just come out as bisexual.
The 40-year-old pop star sparked a firestorm of speculation after writing a love poem to the LGBT community for Billboard which included the line: “I am bi your side.”
Several music stars have already come out this year, including fellow US singers Demi Lovato and Janelle Monáe came out as queer.
And many fans are saying that the long-time LGBT rights advocate and donor Mraz’s sweet message, published in honour of Pride Month, was him revealing his sexuality.
Here is the poem, in full:
“Dear You,
Thank you.
You have inspired me.
Re-wired me.
You showed me what strength is.
You demonstrated courage over and over again.
You risked so much for love.
You never compromised your expression
Even when
Your rights and freedoms were being compromised.
You stood up for me.
You stood up for the world.
And now the world is better because of you.
We still have a long way to go
But know
I am bi your side.
All ways.”
The “I’m Yours” star first caused fans to wonder whether he was part of the LGBT community with a 2005 interview in which he said that he had “a gay friend I was hanging out with just about everyday. We were basically best friends. It took me about three months before I realised: ‘Oh my god, we’re dating.’
“It wasn’t until we were out for dinner on Valentines Day that I realised we both we’re having a very romantic time together. Right before I moved to California he gave me a pretty strong willed kiss goodbye, which I have never experienced before. Unfortunately, he had a little bit more facial hair than I like.”
He added: “I have a bisexually open mind, but I have never been in a sexual relationship with a man. If the right one came along, then sure.”
Mraz also revealed to Pride Source in 2012 that he suffered homophobic bullying when he was young, explaining that there were “a few kids in high school who called me a fag or just would always intimidate me.”
In the same interview, he said: “I’m keeping more of my options open these days. The older I get, the more fearless I become,” before adding that “I’ve been invited by couples to join them and I’m really turned on by that.”
The musician’s latest bombshell has been received joyously by fans, who are torn between hope and certainty.
One wrote: “jason mraz has been hinting about being bi off and on for the entire time i have been aware of him and it is only on this day in 2018 that i am finally connecting the dots and looking at myself and going….. oh. that explains a lot.”
Another said, with utter conviction: “JASON MRAZ IS BI, Y’ALL.”
One fan wrote emotionally: “Jason Mraz coming out as bisexual would just be like, so important to me… y’all don’t even know.”

Another said: “Wait, did he just say he’s Bi? ❤️ I guess I can hope.”
Others were more sure. One of these wrote: “JASON MRAZ IS BI HAPPY PRIDE MONTH Y’ALL.”
In a similar vein, another said: “JASON MRAZ IS BISEXUAL I LOVE 20GAYTEEN.”
As we all hopefully know by now, 20GayTeen is the best name for this year, courtesy of proudly gay pop star Hayley Kiyoko, known as ‘Lesbian Jesus’ to her fans.
Either side of Kiyoko’s proudly lesbian album Expectations being released in March, musicians have publicly declared that they are part of the LGBT community.
In March, Demi Lovato explained her sexuality, saying: “I’m very fluid, and I think love is love.
“You can find it in any gender.
“I like the freedom of being able to flirt with whoever I want.”
In April, Kehlani came out as queer, not long after she kissed Lovato on stage during a concert.
The 22-year-old singer made the announcement after years of public speculation and media reports labelling her as bisexual or a lesbian.
She wrote on Twitter: “cuz i keep geddin asked.. i’m queer. not bi, not straight. i’m attracted to women, men, REALLY attracted to queer men, non binary people, intersex people, trans people. lil poly pansexual papi hello good morning. does that answer your questions? ✨”
The two-time Grammy Award nominee added that “if ur attracted to a man and then change your energy up when you find out he’s sexually ambiguous or queer, thass gross.”
She told followers that “you bout to miss out on some fye s**t.”
On April 26, Janelle Monáe came out as queer.
The 32-year-old singer ended years of rumours by calling herself “a queer black woman” who wasn’t sure if she was bisexual or pansexual, adding: “I’m open to learning more about who I am.”
And also in April, British pop star Anne-Marie revealed that she was attracted to women.
The rising star, who just released her album Speak Your Mind, said: “I’ve never ever just been attracted to men. I’ve never just been attracted to women.
She added: “I’ve never felt the need to tell anyone that I’m bisexual. I don’t feel like I am.
“I just feel like I’m attracted to who I like.”
