Brendon Urie comes out as pansexual
Panic! at the Disco singer Brendon Urie has come out as pansexual.
The emo-rock singer, who earlier this month donated $1 million to help LGBT kids in US schools, said it was “just people that I am attracted to.”
The singer of “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” has long been an LGBT advocate, and went viral in April when he spoke out in support of people who use gender-neutral pronouns.
But during an interview with Paper Magazine, he clarified his sexuality.
Responding to a question about rejecting stereotypes about masculinity, he said: “I’m married to a woman and I’m very much in love with her but I’m not opposed to a man because to me, I like a person.
“Yeah, I guess you could qualify me as pansexual because I really don’t care,” Urie continued.
“If a person is great, then a person is great. I just like good people, if your heart’s in the right place.
“I’m definitely attracted to men. It’s just people that I am attracted to,” he added.
When asked directly if he was pansexual, the 31-year-old said: “I guess so, I guess this is me coming out as pansexual.”
The singer recalled that coming to terms with his sexuality was “never weird for me.”
He also revealed: “My first bar was a gay bar, I got in underage technically.
“Ryan [Ross, who was in the band for five years] was 18 and I was 17 I think. We played a show somewhere in Texas. These two girls invited us out and she knew the bouncer so we just got in.
“I remember just being hit on all night and it was awesome. I was getting drinks all night,” he remembered.
“These guys would just come up and I was like, ‘I’m flattered but I’m not interested but thank you.’ They were like, ‘We’ll get you interested sweetheart.’
“I was just like, ‘This is dope.'”
There are plenty of other singers who have come out this year.
In March, Demi Lovato explained her sexuality, saying: “I’m very fluid, and I think love is love.
“You can find it in any gender.
“I like the freedom of being able to flirt with whoever I want.”
In April, Kehlani came out as queer, not long after she kissed Lovato on stage during a concert.
The 22-year-old singer made the announcement after years of public speculation and media reports labelling her as bisexual or a lesbian.
She wrote on Twitter: “cuz i keep geddin asked.. i’m queer. not bi, not straight. i’m attracted to women, men, REALLY attracted to queer men, non binary people, intersex people, trans people. lil poly pansexual papi hello good morning. does that answer your questions? ✨”
The two-time Grammy Award nominee added that “if ur attracted to a man and then change your energy up when you find out he’s sexually ambiguous or queer, thass gross.”
She told followers that “you bout to miss out on some fye s**t.”
On April 26, Janelle Monáe came out as queer.
The 32-year-old singer ended years of rumours by calling herself “a queer black woman” who wasn’t sure if she was bisexual or pansexual, adding: “I’m open to learning more about who I am.”
And also in April, British pop star Anne-Marie revealed that she was attracted to women.
The rising star, who just released her album Speak Your Mind, said: “I’ve never ever just been attracted to men. I’ve never just been attracted to women.
She added: “I’ve never felt the need to tell anyone that I’m bisexual. I don’t feel like I am.
“I just feel like I’m attracted to who I like.”
