Lady Gaga’s The Chromatica Ball and other big concerts and festivals could take place this summer following Boris Johnson’s announcement.
With social media rife with excitement for a return to the pub and club to dance to “UK Hun?” and the Chromatica album, you might also be wondering what the latest announcement means for live shows.
In the four-step roadmap announced by the prime minister, Britain will see a series of phased re-openings and easing of restrictions across at least four months starting in March.
This includes step three which sees large events returning no earlier than 17 May at limited capacity, with indoor events at 1,000 or 50 per cent, outdoor events at 4,000 or 50 per cent, and outdoor seated events at 10,000 or 25 per cent.
Then it’s on to step four which will take place no earlier than 21 June and will see nightclubs back, no legal limits on social contact and, most importantly, the return of larger events with no limits on capacity.
The proposed step four will the return of nightclubs and large events with no restrictions.
So basically, if the four steps play out on the expected dates then music fans could be returning to live music venues including arena and stadium shows.
Unfortunately this will no longer be the case for The Chromatica Ball as it’s been confirmed that the stadium tour – including the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium date – is being rescheduled to 2022.
In a statement Lady Gaga said: “While some parts of the world are moving quickly to open up, others are not yet ready. So until we can confirm all global dates, we have to postpone The Chromatica Ball shows to the summer of 2022.”
Following the initial government announcement a number of festivals and club nights posted on social media, including Manchester Pride who tweeted: “Watch this space…” which sent future attendees into a frenzy as it typically takes place across August bank holiday weekend.

Other big tours set to take place later this year include Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia Tour, Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour and Steps’ What The Future Holds Tour, as well as festivals like Mighty Hoopla, which are all scheduled from September onwards.
Although the music venue reopening is definitely something to be excited for, it will now depend on how the next couple of months play out as lockdown restrictions are eased while the government simultaneously aims to vaccinate more of the population.
Meanwhile big name acts including Celine Dion and Little Mix recently rescheduled their arena tours to 2022, with the girl group telling their fans: “You know how much we love being on the road and performing every night for you all.
“However, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, we must prioritise the safety of our fans and crew and help to stop the spread. Therefore we’re so sad to say that the Confetti tour will be postponed to April 2022.”
