Sarah Harding drops surprise new single to raise money for NHS trust treating her cancer
Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding has released a previously unheard solo song to raise money for the NHS foundation that’s treating her for cancer.
“Wear It Like A Crown” dropped at midnight on Thursday (25 March), with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to the Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
Harding rediscovered the 10-year-old track as she wrote her new memoir Hear Me Out, which chronicles her singing career and her cancer battle.
“While I was searching through my laptop for old photos to include in the book, I actually came across a song I’d recorded about 10 years ago,” she told fans on Instagram.
“I’ve always really loved it, and it made me feel a bit sad that no-one ever got to hear it. I mentioned this to my team and they said we could release it, and I thought ‘Why the hell not?”
Sarah Harding continued: “I’ve literally no idea how this all works anymore, but on the off chance it generates any profit, I’ll give it all to the Christie NHS Foundation where I’m receiving my treatment.
“If you’ve read my book you’ll know just how amazing the doctors, nurses and all the staff at The Christie are. They are actual angels.”
“Wear It Like A Crown” is Harding’s first solo material since 2015’s Threads EP, while she also contributed three solo songs to the St Trinian’s movie soundtrack in 2009.
Recently she returned to the charts after fans launched a campaign of support for the Girls Aloud track “Hear Me Out”, which she co-wrote.
It came after Harding, 39, revealed she may not be alive by Christmas, and that her cancer has spread to her spine.
“Hear Me Out” peaked at number 18 on the UK charts last week, a gesture that overwhelmed her Girls Aloud bandmates.
Responding to a fan on Twitter, Nicola Roberts said: “This is amazing! Thank you for doing this for Sarah. To be able to tell her this is so special.”
Kimberley Walsh added: “What a lovely thing you guys are doing, Sarah will love this! Everyone go go go download if you can!”
